Choosing the right surgeon for your eye surgery or cosmetic surgery is critically important in ensuring you receive the results you desire and expect. At Zeiter Eye Medical Group, your surgeon is involved from the pre-procedure consultation, through your surgery and during your post-procedure care.
Zeiter Eye Medical Group, Inc. was founded by Henry Zeiter, MD in 1962. Dr. Henry operated ZEMG as a single MD practice until 1982 when Joseph T. Zeiter, MD, Dr. Henry’s nephew, joined the practice. In 1985 they opened the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) of Zeiter Eye, which was one of the first Ambulatory Surgery Center’s in the State of California.
Joseph T. Zeiter
M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Joseph T. Zeiter is a board-certified ophthalmologist with more than 43 years of surgical experience. He received his undergraduate degree, medical degree, and ophthalmology training at the University of California, Davis. He began doing refractive surgery early in his career and has performed more than 10,000 refractive procedures, including radial keratotomy (RK), photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), LASIK, and CustomCornea. Dr. Joe started Mission Cataract in 1992 with Drs. Henry and John Zeiter, which was an annual program that provided cataract surgery to people who could not afford it.He now specializes in Refractive lens Exchanges with custom trifocal implants for both young patients as well as older cataract patients.
John H. Zeiter
M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. John Zeiter is a board-certified ophthalmologist with over 20 years of surgical experience. He received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and completed his ophthalmology training at the Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. John has published over 20 articles in medical journals and books in the areas of cataract surgery and glaucoma. He is currently an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, Davis.
John C. Canzano
M.D.
Dr. John C. Canzano is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialized training and experience in refractive, cataract, and vitreoretinal surgery. Dr. Canzano completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University and earned his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine. He finished his residency training at UC Davis Medical Center, where he is currently an Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology. Dr. Canzano then pursued specialty training in the field of retina at the Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California. Dr. Canzano is dedicated to the management of diabetic eye disease as well as macular degeneration, but also promotes a well-rounded and progressive approach to improving vision via his interest in refractive and cataract surgeries.
Richard M. Wong
M.D.
Dr. Richard Wong is a board-certified ophthalmologist with specialized training and experience in cataract and glaucoma surgery. Dr. Wong completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley and earned his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine. He finished his ophthalmology residency training at Texas Tech University then pursued glaucoma fellowship training at the Doheny Eye Institute, University of Southern California. Dr. Wong is dedicated to the clinical and surgical management of glaucoma and cataracts including the newer minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS), combined cataract/glaucoma surgery and the use of multifocal intraocular lenses.
Joseph E. Zeiter, Jr.
M.D.
Dr. Joseph E. Zeiter Jr., M.D. received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, San Diego. He then completed four years of medical school at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He did his internship at the University of Arizona in Tucson and then completed his residency in ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit in 2012. He finished a six-week externship to further sharpen his Spanish skills in Medellin, Colombia and joined Zeiter Eye in 2012, as the fourth Zeiter to join the practice.
Mohammad Pathan
M.D.
Dr. Mohammad F. Pathan, M.D. received his Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering from Clemson University. He then completed four years of medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. He did his internship at Columbus Regional Medical Center and then completed his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center in 2017. Dr. Pathan joined Zeiter Eye in 2019. Prior to that he practiced comprehensive ophthalmology for 2 years in western Pennsylvania. He has thoroughly enjoyed the past 2 years in the central valley and is committed to building lifelong relationships in the community. John H. Zeiter, Jr.
M.D.
Dr. John H. Zeiter Jr., M.D. received his Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from Dartmouth College. He then completed four years of medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, followed by four years of ophthalmology residency at the Kresge Eye Institute in Detroit. Dr. John, Jr. then moved back West to complete a one-year Fellowship in Glaucoma Surgery at the UCSF Medical Center. His glaucoma training included extensive medical, laser, and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) in addition to complex cataract surgery. Dr. John, Jr. is the fifth Zeiter to join the practice.

Henry J. Zeiter
M.D., F.A.C.S.
Dr. Henry J. Zeiter is the founder of Zeiter Eye Medical Group, Inc. He completed a residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Kresge Eye Institute, Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Dr. Henry founded Zeiter Eye in 1962 and became one of the pioneers in the development and use of the intraocular lens in cataract surgery. After 45 years of practicing ophthalmology, Dr. Henry retired from the practice of medicine to dedicate himself to writing, cultural pursuits, and philanthropy.
Dr. Henry Joseph Zeiter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle, passed peacefully into Eternal Life early Sunday, December 20, 2020. He died of congestive heart failure in his Lodi home, and having said goodbye to his children and grandchildren in the previous days, he took his last breath with his wife Carol and daughter Suzie beside him holding his hand.
